{"id":2152,"date":"2021-09-19T11:22:37","date_gmt":"2021-09-19T11:22:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/khoo.com.au\/?page_id=2152"},"modified":"2021-09-19T11:22:37","modified_gmt":"2021-09-19T11:22:37","slug":"after-your-pfizer-comirnaty-vaccination","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/khoo.com.au\/index.php\/after-your-pfizer-comirnaty-vaccination\/","title":{"rendered":"After your Pfizer Comirnaty vaccination"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>17th September 2021, Dr Chee L Khoo<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/khoo.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/character_holding_syringe_400_clr_19089.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2153\" width=\"250\" height=\"238\" srcset=\"https:\/\/khoo.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/character_holding_syringe_400_clr_19089.png 400w, https:\/\/khoo.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/character_holding_syringe_400_clr_19089-300x285.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>As with any vaccine, you may have some side effects after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Common side effects after Pfizer include<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u00b7 pain or swelling at the injection site<\/li><li>\u00b7 tiredness<\/li><li>\u00b7 headache<\/li><li>\u00b7 muscle pain<\/li><li>\u00b7 fever and chills<\/li><li>\u00b7 joint pain.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Less common side effects after Pfizer include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u00b7 redness at the injection site<\/li><li>\u00b7 nausea<\/li><li>\u00b7 enlarged lymph nodes<\/li><li>\u00b7 feeling unwell<\/li><li>\u00b7 pain in limb<\/li><li>\u00b7 insomnia<\/li><li>\u00b7 itching at the injection site.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These side effects are usually\nmild and usually go away within one or two days. Some recipients will\nexperience more significant flu-like symptoms from this vaccination compared to\nother common vaccinations and may require time away from normal activities.\nThese symptoms may occur after either dose but are more common after the second\ndose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you experience pain at the\ninjection site or fever, headaches or body aches after vaccination, you can\ntake paracetamol or ibuprofen. These help to reduce some of the above symptoms\n(you do not need to take paracetamol or ibuprofen before vaccination). If there\nis swelling at the injection site, you can use a cold compress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rare side effects that have been reported after Pfizer are:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u00b7 severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)<\/li><li>\u00b7 <strong>myocarditis<\/strong> (inflammation of the heart muscle) and pericarditis (inflammation of the outer lining of the heart). Most reported cases have been mild and recovered quickly, although longer-term follow-up of these cases is ongoing. Cases have been reported predominantly after the second dose and predominantly in younger males (aged &lt; 30 years).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You should seek\nmedical attention after vaccination if you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u00b7 think you are having an allergic reaction. Call 000 if you experience severe symptoms, such as difficulty breathing, wheezing, a fast heartbeat or collapsing<\/li><li>\u00b7 have chest pain, pressure or discomfort, irregular heartbeat, skipped beats or \u2018fluttering\u2019, fainting, shortness of breath or pain with breathing<\/li><li>\u00b7 are worried about a potential side effect or have new or unexpected symptoms<\/li><li>\u00b7 have an expected side effect of the vaccine which has not gone away after a few days.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Remember\nyour second appointment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important\nthat you receive two doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. These doses are\ngenerally given 3-6 weeks apart, but longer intervals may be recommended in\nspecial circumstances.
